


About Kulmiye
The KULMIYE (Peace, Unity and Development Party) is a political party in the Republic of Somaliland and it is currently the ruling party, having won the second largest votes in the House of Representatives at the 2005 Parliamentary elections.
KULMIYE Party founded in May, 2002, KULMIYE party overtook as the main opposition party to its rival at that time –UDUB, the Somaliland ruling Party of that time.
Firstly, the KULMIYE party ran in 2003 Presidential election in Somaliland, Ahmed Mohamed Mohamed was the first presidential candidate of KULMIYE Party. Unfortunately, KULMIYE did not succeed the election and was defeated only by a mere of 80 votes and the party conceded the defeat. This election was a historic election in Somaliland because it was the first presidential election held by one-vote-one-person system.
Aftermath, KULMIYE Party began to re-organize its political program and the Party itself, General Assembly and Central committee Convention were held. Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud – Silanyo was re-elected to be the chairperson and the presidential candidate of the Party while Abdirahman Abdullahi Sayli was elected as the vice presidential candidate.
KULMIYE was putting Somaliland development on the peak, the party has been termed as the party of Peace, Unity, Development and Investment as it encompasses all the various people of Somaliland.
